Pasta Party 5/18, Tournament 5/19

Just a quick reminder that we have our last pasta party on Friday, May 18 and it will be hosted by the Garber family (12 Colony Rd.) On Saturday, the girls travel to the Hopkins Tournament. The first game (v. Hopkins) will be at 10:30. If we lose that game, we will play in the consolation game at 1:00. If we win, we will play in the championship game at 2:00. The other participants in the tournament are Hotchkiss and Williston.

Summer Water Polo

In addition to the opportunity to play water polo at the Greenwich Y this summer, there is also the chance to play with Greenwich Water Polo who will be practicing at Chelsea piers new facility at exit 9 in Stamford. Here is the information on that if anyone is interested.

Greenwich Water Polo Summer Travel Teams (Register as part of Spring Travel Here–even if playing only in summer)

What: Our Summer Travel Teams include a continuation of players from our Spring Travel Teams as well as new players added at the end of May who have been unable to participate in Spring Travel. The program spans all age groups from 12&under to 18&under.

Our teams will work to compete in the Junior Olympics (JOs), a national competition sanctioned by USA Water Polo and held this year in late July/early August in Northern California. The older girls will have the opportunity to travel to Spain this summer as the boys did last year.

When: Season runs from mid-to late-May through early August. Evaluations for players who do not plan to participate in the Spring Travel evaluations will be held at Greenwich High School on March 25 and April 1 (See Calendar for times). Final selection of players for summer travel teams to be announced in mid-May.

Practices: There are 2 to 4 practices per week based on age group of travel team. Regular practices and games are scheduled for most Sundays during the season.

Where: Practices are held at various local Greenwich and Stamford pools based on team assignment. Practice times are posted in the Calendar/Schedule tab of the website during the season.

Program Fee: $295/month June-July. There are additional travel expenses for away tournaments. Scholarships are available.

A big thank you to all the girls that helped out with yesterday’s car wash and to all the parents who got their cars washed! Just a quick reminder, we have a pasta party tonight at the Donovan’s house (9 Greenbrier Rd.) Our next pasta party is on Friday, May 18 and it will be hosted by the Garber family (12 Colony Rd.)

The next pasta dinner – which was scheduled for this Monday – is postponed until April 30, 2012 because of Bradley Helt’s funeral. It will be at the Chaples, 7 Canal Street, Westport, CT 06880.

Greenwich Game Postponed from 4/24 to 5/1

Because the coaches, captains and other members of the team wish to attend Bradley Helt’s funeral, the game against Greenwich Aquatics has been postponed a week. It will now be on Tuesday May 1, 2012 at 4:30 pm.

Connecticut Swimmers Mourn the Loss of Bradley Helt

The Connecticut swimming community is mourning the loss of Westport swimmer Bradley Helt, who passed away on April 9, 2012. Bradley, who was a junior at Fairfield Prep, attended Long Lots Elementary School and Coleytown Middle School before entering Prep. He began swimming in the Westport Weston Family Y Brophy Pool and was a member of Westport Weston Family Y Water Rats until his freshman year of high school, when he transferred to the Wilton Y Wahoos.

Calling hours will be held Monday April 23, 2012 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Christ & Holy Trinity Church, 75 Church Lane, Westport. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ & Holy Trinity Church.

Although the Hopkins coach wanted to reschedule tomorrow’s game, he and I decided it would be better not to postpone.

We will be play the Hopkins School in New Haven on April 12, per our original schedule.

Staples to Host Blood Drive on 4/10

Staples High School will hold a Blood Drive on Tuesday, April 10. Students aged 17 or older may donate without parental permission. But remember if you donate, you cannot participate in an athletic activity after school Tuesday afternoon. This means no water polo practice.
